Term 2 -
Literacy -
Writing – This term we will be learning the structure and language features of a finding tale and the writing tools we can use to add suspense to our writing pieces Reading - This term each group will be using fiction novels as a context for learning reading skills. ● Diary of a Killer Cat ● Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
Numeracy-
In Numeracy each group will be revising strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will use these in the context of Money. We will also be working on Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, Angles and Symmetry as well as Multiples, Factor and Primes for P7.
Interdisciplinary Learning
Our topic this session is titled ‘What Makes Our Community Great?’ The children will be encouraged to take the lead as we adopt an ‘inquiry’ approach which centres on the natural curiosity of the learner, allowing them to drive the direction of the learning experience. This topic will incorporate aspects of Social Studies, Art, Technologies and Outdoor Learning.
Health & Wellbeing
In PE we will be developing our stamina, speed and core stability and strength through possession games including Football and Benchball. Healthy - The children will apply their knowledge and understanding of the ‘Eatwell Guide’ to evaluate food and drink choices Achieving – The children will identify opportunities to carry out different activities and roles in a variety of settings have enabled them to identify achievements, skills and areas for development.
Outdoor Learning
Throughout the term we will identify opportunities to use our outdoor classroom. These activities will be both planned in advance and incidental. Planned outdoor learning this term includes Fractions and Symmetry in mathematics and using the outdoors as a stimulus for adding suspense in our writing pieces.
Other Areas
RME -. This term we will be learning about how Christian beliefs are expressed through traditions, stories, and artefacts during the preparation for and celebration of Christmas French This term we cover the months of the year, weather and food. We will also revise numbers beyond 20
Special Events/Activities
Side Kicks Training – P7 will be attending a training session which will equip them skills to organise fun games in the playground and warm up activities in P.E lessons Leadhills Trip – On Thursday the 29 of October we will be visiting Fiona Foley at her workshop to catch up on the progress of our stained glass project. It may also provide an opportunity to further our Community topic. Hallowe’en – P7 will plan and organise a fun filled afternoon of spooky games Computer Science Week – We will be participating in live lesson, promoting the effectiveness of computing skills.
